WASHINGTON—The National Council on Disability (NCD) and its federal partners today completed their plans for the upcoming Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Town Hall Meeting.

Note: At the conclusion of the ADA Town Hall Meeting, U.S. Surgeon General Richard Carmona, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.S., and Health and Human Services Office on Disability Director Margaret Giannini, M.D., F.A.A.P. will unveil both a companion “People’s Piece” to The Surgeon General’s Call to Action to Improve the Health and Wellness of Persons with Disabilities and the Agenda for Action to achieve the goals of the Call to Action.
The “People’s Piece,” designed with health literacy in mind, not only provides basic information about disability and the Call to Action, but also articulates how people with disabilities, other private citizens, health care providers, advocates, and family members can work together to enable persons with disabilities to achieve improved availability of access to healthcare services. The Agenda for Action identifies specific ways in which public and private partners can join together to help make the goals of the Call to Action a reality for 54 million Americans with disabilities.
