NCD Chairman to speak at State Employment Leadership Network event

Monday, September 30, 2019

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sept. 30, 2019

National Council on Disability (NCD) Chairman Neil Romano will be the keynote speaker during an annual meeting of the State Employment Leadership Network (SELN) Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the Hilton Old Town in Alexandria, Virginia.

The SELN is a joint initiative between the National Association of State Directors of Developmental Disability Services (NASDDDS) and the Institute for Community Inclusion at the University of Massachusetts, Boston (ICI UMass). Currently, there are 26 SELN member states working together to increase competitive integrated employment services and outcomes for people with significant disabilities.

More information on SELN is available at http://www.selnhub.org/home

Mr. Romano was appointed to NCD in February 2015. Last February, he was reappointed for a second term of three years by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, and designated as Chairman by President Donald J. Trump.

First established as an advisory council within the Department of Education in 1978, NCD became an independent federal agency in 1984. In 1986, NCD recommended enactment of an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and drafted the first version of the bill which was introduced in the House and Senate in 1988. Since enactment of the ADA in 1990, NCD has continued to play a leading role in crafting disability policy, and advising the President, Congress and other federal agencies on disability policies, programs, and practices.
