NCD Chairman to participate in DOT Access and Mobility for All Summit

National Council on Disability (NCD) Chairman Neil Romano will take part in a panel discussion during the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Access and Mobility for All Summit, Tuesday, October 29, 1-5 p.m. (EDT) at U.S. DOT Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The panel, Access and Mobility for All: An Interagency Mission, follows keynote remarks from Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Benjamin S. Carson, Sr., M.D., and Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-5).
Joining Chairman Romano on the panel are Vincent Valdes, Associate Administrator for Research, Demonstration and Innovation, Federal Transit Administration; Mary Lazare, Principal Deputy Administrator for the Administration for Community Living, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; Michael Akinyele, Acting VA Chief Innovation Officer and Executive Director of the VA Innovation Center, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs; and Jennifer Sheehy, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Labor for Disability Employment Policy, U.S. Department of Labor.

Mr. Romano was appointed to NCD in February 2015. Last February, he was reappointed for a second term of three years by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, and designated as Chairman by President Donald J. Trump.
First established as an advisory council within the Department of Education in 1978, NCD became an independent federal agency in 1984. In 1986, NCD recommended enactment of an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and drafted the first version of the bill which was introduced in the House and Senate in 1988. Since enactment of the ADA in 1990, NCD has continued to play a leading role in crafting disability policy, and advising the President, Congress and other federal agencies on disability policies, programs, and practices.
